My Week in Stick Chicktivity - 06/11/21

Here we go, y'all!

TRAINING:

At the Kansas City Presas Arnis Meetup, we worked on another of the basic tapi-tapi patterns (parry punch). We spent a lot of time on much of the individual elements contained in this specific pattern, so our guys were able to catch on pretty quickly. They're moving along really well!

In PAC (which we do right after the Meetup), Mr. Chick was covering empty hand drills, so I pitched in some as well (hubad-lubad is so fun).

Class at Elite Dragon was canceled (it's summertime, people are sporadically attending).

BLOGGERY:

Wednesday I had a medical procedure, couldn't get the post ready in time, sorry.

I post on the regular on our MeWe page, on Tumblr and Pinterest! I also share posts on my personal FB page (not always, but usually).

Okay, so, about Facebook.

I abandoned the Facebook page (and by extension, Instagram, because it's owned by Facebook) at the end of last year. Frankly, I put a ton of work into that page over the years, building a following organically, and I posted there nearly every day. That was a TON of content for Facebook to utilize, and lots for you nice readers to engage with and I hope you enjoyed.

Facebook rewarded me for giving them and y'all free content with declining reach, declining views, and a clunky, buggy interface geared toward trying to make me pay for stuff I don't want. Plus, I am not pleased with the heavy-handed way they censor content there.

So, like any good free marketeer would, I voted with my (virtual) feet. I strongly prefer MeWe's cleaner, simpler interface, and managing a page there is simple and easy. It's what FB was like, say, eight or ten years ago, without ANY ads. It's really nice over there, I promise.

But I am also very aware that Facebook and Instagram are the home bases of the audience for this blog, and really, for much of the martial arts community in general.

Leaving FB cuts me off from that community, and I don't want that.

So I'm experimenting. I will post to FB and Instagram off and on for the next month or so, to see what the effect is, and to evaluate whether or not it's worth my effort and time to revive the Blog content in those places.

So if you think you want me to be active again on Facebook (and Instagram), you can interact with the posts (like them at a minimum, sharing them is even better), and you can make sure you follow the page in both places.

If the metrics make sense compared to the effort it takes to update there (and I promise you, it's an effort - ask Mr. Chick about my mornings), I'll start updating there again. I don't know that I'll do Showdown Saturdays any more - I have been considering ending that series regardless - and I may bring back the memes I post on Sundays (which ARE on the MeWe page, kids, if you're jonesin' for a weekly dose of martial arts memes).

So yeah. Maybe I'll be on Facebook and Instagram again, maybe not. We'll see.

DOING STUFF:

I'm off to see Older Daughter this weekend, but you know what? You - yes YOU - can attend the Spring Thing, virtually or in person! Event HERE:

We (Kindred Protective Arts and Elite Dragon Martial Arts) are hosting Bruce Chiu of Arnis International (on Facebook HERE and on Instagram HERE) in June!

You can learn more at the Facebook event HERE, the MeWe event HERE, and the Meetup HERE. We can't wait to host this event, so please join us!

If you can't make it to Missouri on the last weekend in June, perhaps you can make it to the Progressive Arnis Spring Camp in North Carolina? Details HERE.

After Bruce Chiu, dunno what I'll be doing next, or when. It is probably going to be 2022 before I attend anything outside of our own school due to the shoulder surgery coming in July. The shoulder is declining rapidly, so I am glad that surgery is coming soon.

FRIDAY THOUGHTS:

I'm getting to see Older Daughter and son-in-law (yes, it's still SO WEIRD to say that) this weekend for the first time in over a year! So excited!

Y'all stay safe, have fun, and keep training!
